Fiber Types according to ITU-T
Characteristics of optical fiber are determined by ITU-T G.65X.
ITU-T G.650 Definition and test methods for the relevant parameters of single-mode fibers (SMF) – series G: transmission systems and media, digital systems and networks transmission media characteristics - optical fiber cables
According this standard the following categories of optical fiber are defined:
ITU-T G.651 50/125 Micrometer multimode graded index optical fiber cable - series G: transmission systems and media, digital systems and networks - transmission media characteristics - optical fiber cables
ITU-T G.652 A/B Single-mode optical fiber and cable (N-DSF)
ITU-T G.652.C/D Low water peak (LWP) single-mode optical fiber and cable non dispersion-shifted fiber (LWP N-DSF)
ITU-T G.653 Dispersion-shifted single-mode optical fiber and cable
ITU-T G.654 Cut-off shifted single-mode optical fiber and cable
ITU-T G.655 Non-zero dispersion-shifted single-mode optical fiber and cable (NZ-DSF)
ITU-T G.656 Fiber and cable with non-zero dispersion for wideband optical transport
ITU-T G.657 Bending loss insensitive single mode optical fiber and cable for the access network
